Jessica Jesse at Miss Olympia wears our Jewels

We are so proud of the beautiful Jessica Jessie who wore our custom Miss USA Bracelet in this years Ms. Olympia Swimsuit Competition. Jessica had been inspired by seeing the 2010 Miss USA contest winner, Rima Fakih wearing a similar version of the bracelet. Jessica’s beautiful tan skin was complimented perfectly with the dazzling Swarovski crystal bracelet customized with yellow and clear stones, perfectly matched to her striking yellow swimsuit. You can see Jessica wearing our Miss USA Bracelet in our “photos” section here on Facebook, or become a fan of Jessica Jessie on Facebook, as she is a rising star!

I became a housewife of Orange County

Something Green For the Bride Event

I am always telling myself that age 40 is the new 30.   Living in one of the most body conscious places in the world, I am surrounded by women who are attempting to maintain their youthful appearance.  I dress thin and tall models.  I work with 25 year olds.  Generally, I am good with growing older.

The last few months, I have been working endless hours in front of my computer preparing for my Something Green for the Bride event in Laguna Beach.  As a jewelry and bridal accessory designer for Renee Pawele Bride, I was working hard preparing to launch my new eco-friendly collection.  I decided for this event, I would spend one day on my personal beautification project.

Wearing my winter white skin, I discovered the fabulous airbrush tan! Can have a glowing golden tan and look like I enjoy all of the amenities of Southern California?
Yes, I can.
Did I get my make-up done and eye-opening fake eyelashes to appear rested?
Yes, I did.

Then I discovered something new: Hair extensions.

Several weeks ago I observed Sarah Goethals, a very talented and saucy hair stylist, put extensions on reality show celebrity Ambre Lake from Bret Michael’s “Rock of Love” in about 30 minutes, transforming her into a sultry goddess before our Something Green photo shoot.  I could not resist trying on the layers of extra hair in the bathroom while nobody was looking.  I have long hair and never considered putting EXTRA hair on my head.  For the next few weeks, I couldn’t stop thinking of the waves of luscious long locks…

Thanks to Sarah at Champions Salon, I officially became one of the Housewives of Orange County.  Anyone who watches this television show knows I am not wearing a bathrobe and curlers in my hair.  My stylist sewed in 6 inches of long thick golden locks that looked so amazing my own friends didn’t recognize me.  My husband loves the way my hair looks but is still uneasy when he touches my hair.  My daughter loves it!  My son doesn’t care.

After the night of glamour, I did go back to my regular life.  The first day back to my martial arts class training Brazilian Ji-jitsu, I got a completely different reaction.

I rotated through several frustrated male partners who asked, “Why do you have so much hair?!!”

Kleinfeld’s Nicole Vega tells me what its all about

Nicole's favorite pair of the many gloves the salon offers.

Stylish and petite Nicole Vega, the accessory manager at Kleinfeld’s bridal salon knows everything about bridal accessories in New York.  After all she is planning her own wedding.  There is a major divide between what East and West Coast brides are demanding for bridal accessories.  Does she know something I don’t know???  I was thrilled by the accessory she recently stocked in the salon.  Gloves!  It seems the vintage revival is also including a resurgence in beautiful lace and silk gloves.  Kleinfeld’s has a designer Stacey  that custom fits the gloves to the bride.  I found myself day dreaming of my old idol Madonna desperately thinking how I could wear gloves in my life.  Now I know why I have seen the young hipsters in the New York bars styled up in couture cuffs!  Nicole’s main issue is how she will incorporate gloves in her own bridal ensemble as her favorite bridal accessory is the headpiece!   I look forward to how she will style herself for her own wedding next year!

Hayley’s Ruby Red Swarovski Slippers

I met a fabulous bride a few weeks ago at Destiny’s Bridal Salon in Scottsdale, Arizona. We must have been sisters in another life we had so much in common! I was thrilled to help Hayley select the perfect headpiece for her wedding — the Delilah Headband, of course. I was really impressed by her  talent for adding BLING to her platform heels. Check out the pictures! She will do you shoes too. Just send me an email if you want her contact info!

Renee Pawele Drop Pearl Bridal EarringsStyling Tips From Couture Bridal Accessory Expert, Renee Pawele

Special to OneWed by Renee Pawele, CEO of Renee Pawele Bride

I’ve had the pleasure of styling many fabulous brides for over a decade designing bridal accessories. I am thrilled to begin sharing my styling tips with Savvy Scoop brides-to-be each month. My first column includes my top tips for selecting the accessories that best suite you. Congratulations, your wedding day will be amazing!

Timing — Surprise! Some accessories also require advance ordering, especially for custom-made or altered items, such as veils, jewelry and headpieces. Allow 6-8 weeks to be sure your accessories arrive on time and avoid rush charges. Add extra time if you would like your veil and headpiece available for hair trials or all of your accessories for pre-wedding photos.

Beyond Bridal — Jewelry that can be worn beyond your wedding day to dress up jeans, or hair accessories that can be the finishing touch on a big night out, are a better value than cheap costume jewelry. Also look for pieces that are made from high quality materials by designers with a solid reputation if you want to ensure that you can pass your accessories down to your own future generations.

Too Sparkle or Not to Sparkle — Rhinestones or pearls or crystals, oh my! How can a girl choose? Rhinestones of course add the most sparkle and are just right for evening weddings, earrings and hair accessories that draw attention to your face, and brides who just love bling. Crystals bring a little brightening to any piece, especially at afternoon weddings when they catch the sunlight. Pearls soften a look and keep it classic. Pieces with combinations of all three can create the perfect balance of sparkle and softness.

Skip Off the Shelf — For your accessories that is! While a custom-designed wedding dress is outside the realm of many brides, customized jewelry, hair accessories and veiling are more accessible. In fact, many of our favorite Renee Pawele pieces were inspired by the design direction of particular blushing brides!

Lashes or Botox?

Lashes or BotoxLashes or BotoxLashes or Botox

Okay, I am not really a girly girl. I never really thought I needed false eyelashes. Until I met D’Lashes. I recently styled brides with the Renee Strauss for the Bride Salon in Beverly Hills where a staff of hair and make-up artists transformed soon to be brides into their wedding day look. I watched one girlie after another become a sexpot the second she saw herself with D’Lashes. Dionne hand set each lash while you relaxed with an eye mask promising the lashes could last for weeks.

I was intrigued. The following day I was shooting a new headshot and I wondered, “Would lashes bring out my inner diva?” I dread getting my photo taken in a headshot. I get soooo nervous. I much prefer to glam my brides then myself. I could not believe the results. Every bride should get eyelashes from Dionne.
I made the journey home from Los Angeles to the OC late and exhausted.

The true test: The husband. I asked him if he noticed anything different….He looked me up and down, and answered. “Did you get BOTOX?” Enough said.

As an ungirly girl, I can tell you I even managed to keep the lashes on for a week!  My recommendation?  Get lashes a day before wedding….keep them on while honeymooning.

About Dionne~
Dionne Phillips knows beauty. An industry makeup artist, model & actress,Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan,Rachel Zoe, and Naomi Campbell are just a few of the A-list celebrities who credit eyelash extension specialist Dionne Phillips with their glamorous style. Dionne trained in New York, perfecting the art of eyelash extensions, being the first to bring her unique talent to Los Angeles. A surgeon’s precision, Dionne has formulated a technique which can give every woman a new “lash” on life. Creating a fun and fabulous look. Either you are just looking to enhance your natural beauty, are a cancer patient looking to restore one’s sense of self, or are a party girl looking to give diva for a few weeks, Dionne can help you “lash” out the competition with a variety of lash styles ranging from natural to ultra glam. D’Lashes last for weeks or months depending on the technique you choose.Once you “lash out” with D’Lashes you will discover why Dionne Phillips is the Queen of Eyelashes.

Martha Stewart is the mecca for all aspiring designers

The downside to “living the dream” is that as much as I tell my husband and my OC housewife friends about my fashion adventures, they don’t really understand how great it is.  That is why the whole blog concept is so cool.  I can share my experiences with anyone who shares my interests or desires to succeed in the design industry.  Anyone who grew up with me, knows that fashion and construction was my passion.  To this day, l spend most of my time building and designing for my own business in beautiful Southern California.   My overloaded days are filled with pretending to be glamorous and successful in my head,  between chaperoning my two children back and forth to school in a pair of flip flops.  Sometimes, I think my seven year old gives me a knowing look that she understands that I am “a cool designer” even when I am wearing my mommy hat.

So flash to my present day……I am in a taxi in Manhattan on my way to meet one of the fabulous fashion editors at Martha Stewart Magazine.  Did I mention it is freezing and raining?  My driver wants me to get out and walk because he does not want to turn down into the busy street of jam packed taxis at 9 am in from of the chic high rise on the Hudson.  I try to negotiate paying the driver as I spill most of my coffee on my jacket (but its black, thank you Jesus)! And I am wearing my favorite (and only) pair of suede Prada boots.  And it’s raining.

I am realizing there was no point in the coffee or bagel as I am anxious and there is a stampede of employees fighting for elevators and I cannot be late.  I was given a VISITOR name tag to fill out, but the security guard laughed at me when I attempted to put it on.  What was I supposed to do with it??

No matter where I go, or what milestone I have reached in my career, I still feel like I am living a dream.  It was only yesterday ten years ago,  I was trying to get my first sale from anyone who would look at my collection.  But here I sat in the very cool all white industrial building with mile high ceilings overlooking the Hudson in the Martha Stewart lobby  waiting for the editor. Do I casually read a magazine? Do I take off my jacket to reveal my very stylish bell bottoms and vest? Do I act as if I do this every day and it’s no big deal?

Finally I am approached by a sweet vintage chic woman who invited ME into the offices of the Mecca that is Martha.  We toured by isles of departments specializing in technology, cooking, style, events and finally weddings.   I felt  right at home when the editor excused the project table piled high with well…projects.  Just like my office.  She complemented my earrings (and the earrings just happened to be part of the collection that I wanted to show off).

My short meeting went so well, feeling like we had much in common and a future direction.  I left feeling confident and excited about our synergy.  She walked me back to the hallway and watched me walk down to the exit door and pulled.  It was locked.  I tried again.  Locked again. Not a very graceful exit.  I prayed she was no longer watching. The next employee explained that I was supposed to push the button on the wall to open the exit door.  I remember the reason why my college roommates had lovingly nicknamed me “Grace.”

Let’s hear it from all those Martha fans out there!   They are as hip and cool as you would expect.  I wanted to share that with you.  And now I must find a store that sells snow globe souvenirs so my kids will think I am cool.

If I were a man…..I would shop with Kleinfeld.

Many times over the years, I have been asked by stylish and hip men where they could get a “cool” suit or tux for their wedding. I have never been able to answer this question. Until now. I was given a personal tour by Randy Fenoli, the style guru of Kleinfeld Bridal salon where they have opened a new custom men’s suit and tuxedo haven. No detail was forgotten from the vintage cufflinks to the comfortable sofas for the elegant men to enjoy as their significant others shop upstairs. Frank Jedda, the Director Of Kleinfeld Men, explained in a mere six weeks, these suits are custom measured, cut and styled in the USA for a starting price of $1500. Your groom-to be can also indulge in a custom shirt, suit and tie in many styles, colors and fabrics that will become part of the entire wedding day story. Finally, our men can look as debonaire as brides are beautiful on our wedding day!!
